A number of Netflix subscribers are sharing a new reason to want to cancel their Netflix subscriptions with the newest “#CancelNetflix” boycott. This time, however, these subscribers want to do so because Netflix chairman Reed Hastings donated to the ongoing Kamala Harris campaign.
It’s been stated that the donation contributed by Hastings is actually “the largest single campaign contribution the streaming mogul has ever made.” Overall, Harris “donated $7 million to a super PAC supporting VP Kamala Harris’ presidential election campaign.”
This information was shared by Variety, and the outlet included the following quote from Hastings via The Information:
“After the depressing debate, we are in the game again,” Hastings shared regarding his contributions.
The comment made by Hastings was echoed in an addition statement on X, where he congratulated Harris after Biden exited the 2024 race and noted that “now it is time to win.”
Congrats to Kamala Harris — now it is time to win

Here are some of the tweets calling to boycott the streaming service which Hastings once co-founded in 1997:
I think it’s time to boycott Netflix. They’ are overcharging Americans anyway.

It’s been about a week since Biden announced that he would no longer be running his 2024 reelection campaign. In the time since then, Harris was endorsed to run in his place, and her campaign has raised more than $130 million in the time since. Now with contributions including the $7 million from Hastings, we’ll have to see where her campaign goes from here.
Variety also notes that “Hastings currently has a net worth of $6.21 billion,” which is mostly said to be “tied to Netflix stock and options.” As such, the Netflix chairman’s “biggest single charitable donation to date” includes 2 million shares of Netflix which were donated to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation earlier this year.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Cancel Netflix boycott and Kamala Harris as we have them. For now, it’ll be interesting to see how this situation progresses. Especially with so many notable people and companies now entering the mix.
