The upcoming MCU Disney Plus series Agatha All Along, in addition to expanding the role of Agatha first introduced in WandaVision, will revolve around a number of new characters. This includes Joe Locke’s character “Teen,” who many Marvel fans believe he could actually be Wanda Maximoff’s son Billy. Joe Locke has opened up about some details regarding his Agatha All Along character, and furthermore confirmed their sexuality.
Locke opened up about his part on the series while speaking with Rolling Stone. He explained that the series stands out from other MCU productions because not only is it a dark comedy, but it’s one that revolves around a coven of witches. This obviously sets it apart from traditional superhero storytelling.
As he explained:
“It’s a dark comedy about witches. It’s not what you would usually expect from a Marvel series,” he began.
“We gather a coven and a very unlikely group of women and me — which is my life in general — get on the Witches’ Road,” Locke adds. “Then magic, fun, and mystery prevails.”
Locke goes on to discuss the other “many twists and turns” that fans can expect to see during Agatha All Along. Interestingly, he compares the subversive humor of this particular series to its predecessor, WandaVision. Here’s what he had to say:
“In the same way WandaVision goes through all these different subgenres of comedies, Agatha does that in a different way. It’s definitely darker. It’s actually a little bit scary, which is good. I think it’s a great start for a new journey within the MCU of exploring different types of characters that aren’t like Iron Man or Captain America.”
“It’s a new type of superhero, which I think is exciting,” Locke emphasizes.
He then took a more personal approach by describing his own character in the series. Locke finally confirms that his character will be gay.
“The way it’s explored in the show is very truthful and very positive,” he confirms. “His sexuality is just one part of the character.”
