Production on the latest two Avengers movies from Marvel Studios is getting closer to happening. The highly-anticipated MCU events now have a familiar pair of directors in talks to helm the films. Joe and Anthony Russo, the two brothers that have previously directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame along with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, are now in talks to direct Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.
This exciting news was shared by THR. The outlet confirms that the Russo Brothers “are in early talks to return to Marvel Studios to direct not just one, but the next two Avengers movies.” This is certainly a surprising turn of events, as Marvel Studios has been searching for directors to tackle the projects for quite some time. In fact, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was near the top of the list.
At this time of this writing, however, the talks between the two directors and Marvel Studios “are in the early stages.” As such, we’ll have to wait and see when our next updates regarding their involvement will be. For now, though, it would be exciting to see the two come back to helm these next two Avengers installments. They’ve been involved with some of the biggest MCU movies ever, so having them attached to both Avengers 5 and Secret Wars makes perfect sense.
The duo have been working on several other projects over the last few years, however, with Avengers: Endgame being something of a conclusion for their work in the MCU. It seems enough time has passed though for the Russo Brothers to come back to the brand. Especially with Secret Wars being a story arc they’ve previously expressed interest in adapting.
Avengers 5 is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026 with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled for May 7, 2027. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel Cinematic Universe updates as we have them. Hopefully we’ll have more word soon for the Russo Brothers and their potential involvement in directing Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars in the near future. As for now, this is an exciting development for the two sequels that fans are eagerly anticipating.
