The 1993 Disney movie Hocus Pocus didn’t make a smash at the box office during its initial release, but it did obtain a major following over the years. Enough so that Disney finally made a sequel for Disney Plus in 2022. Now Bette Midler, who stars as one of the three witches featured in both films alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, has updated fans on Hocus Pocus 3.
Midler discussed the development of Hocus Pocus 3 while speaking on the talk show Busy This Week. It’s not exactly surprising that a third film is being developed, especially when Hocus Pocus 2 has been one of the biggest movie premieres on the platform.
Of course, it took decades before the sequel ever got off the ground. Now, as Midler explains on the talk show, she’s hoping the next film happens much sooner than later. She first began by discussing the development of Hocus Pocus 3, and that while there is a script being worked on, she hasn’t yet seen it.
“I haven’t seen the script, but, I’ve heard rumblings,” Midler revealed.
“I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”
It’s understandable that Midler, who is currently 78-years-old, is eager to have production on the third installment get underway. Currently, it’s only been stated that Anne Fletcher will direct Hocus Pocus 3 after having directed the second film. Screenwriter Jen D’Angelo will also return to write the screenplay.
Hopefully we’ll have more details regarding Hocus Pocus 3 in the near future. As Bette Midler herself notes, it’ll be best for everyone if the production of Hocus Pocus 3 can happen sooner rather than later. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
