It’s been nearly a year since the remake of The Toxic Avenger had its first official teaser trailer released online. Additionally, around that time, the film had its first premiere at Fantastic Fest in September 2023. Since then, however, there’s been no word about a public release. Now a new source calls The Toxic Avenger an “unreleasable” movie despite having stars like Peter Dinklage attached.
According to World of Reel, it was actually a producer of The Toxic Avenger who shared the bad news. The unnamed producer says that the project is simply “too out there” as far as being a movie with mass commercial appeal. In fact, they believe the film could likely just end up on a streaming platform like Tubi in the future.
Here’s what they specifically had to share about the Toxic Avenger remake:
“If it had great reviews then maybe the forecast would be a little rosier, but there isn’t much potential. It’s too niche. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it on Tubi a few years from now.”
An additional filmmaker that works “in movie product licensing” agrees that this information is “factual.” It seems as though distributors are just uncertain about a movie like The Toxic Avenger and how exactly they could market the project for mainstream audiences.
This is factual.
This is what we (I work in movie product licensing) were officially told as well regarding it.

This news is both surprising – and disappointing – to hear in a post-Deadpool world. After all, the R-rated superhero blockbuster proved that a raunchy take on the genre could still work in today’s market. Perhaps the release of Deadpool & Wolverine will help The Toxic Avenger find some momentum.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding The Toxic Avenger as we have them. Although there is no official release date or distributor at this time, one can hope that we’ll get to see this new take on “Toxie” sooner rather than later.
