Ryan Reynolds is reprising his role as Deadpool for the upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine. Hugh Jackman will return alongside Reynolds as Wolverine, a role he’s portrayed since the very first X-Men movie was released. As for Ryan Reynolds, his first appearance as Deadpool was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and now he’s recalled his time on the movie.
Of course, as fans know, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is far from comic-accurate. In fact, the movie was quite negatively received for major changes it made to the Deadpool character. At one time, it even seemed unlikely that Reynolds would ever have the opportunity to play the role again because fans were so confused by his character in the failed X-Men movie.
Fortunately, Reynolds was given the chance to portray Deadpool again for his own solo movie, and the “risk” paid off. Deadpool was a massive success and paved the way for a similarly-successful sequel and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. Now, while speaking with Variety, Ryan Reynolds commented on his first time playing Deadpool.
Here’s what he shared about the event, which also happened to be his first time working with Hugh Jackman:
“The first time we worked together on ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ it’s easy to say we got some things wrong. Deadpool sewing up his mouth was one of the all-time foolish studio notes. But at the same time, I’m so grateful for it. Hugh was a huge influence on me. It was the first time I saw how a movie star operates on set, and it defied all the preconceived notions for a movie star. He was so warm and welcoming. He made it safe to play. He knew every single person’s name. ”
It’s nice to see that Ryan Reynolds has some good thoughts about his time working on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, even if its representation of his character was completely wrong. Fortunately, everything seems to have worked out, with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman finally getting their respective turns to work together again as Deadpool and Wolverine.
Fans will be able to see their reunion on the big screen when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional news regarding Deadpool & Wolverine and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we have them.
