It’s always interesting to see which Hollywood movies will have the opportunity to receive sequels and which will not. Especially when it comes to newer films, it seems more often than not that if it’s going to get a sequel – it will happen right away. As such, it’s quite a surprise to see a sequel reportedly in the works to a hit movie from 2017.
The news was revealed in a new report. Interestingly, this project would have to fit in before several other projects from the same high-profile director that helmed the 2017 movie. It would seem then that this is quite important for the director to get off the ground.
Edgar Wright, the director of this 2017 movie and many other fan-favorite flicks released before it, is currently preparing to shoot The Running Man later this year. Then, around 2026 or 2027, he’s set to shoot a remake of Barbarella. Now, according to Daniel Richtman, this new sequel to his 2017 endeavor could begin production neatly between these two titles.
This 2017 film being none other than Baby Driver. The flick stars Ansel Elgort and Lily James with supporting roles from Eiza Gonzalez, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, and Kevin Spacey. As for which cast members we can expect for the sequel, Richtman couldn’t share much, though he did reveal one interesting tidbit.
According to him, actor Jon Bernthal is not only wanted for the surprise sequel but he would have a much larger role than the first film. Hopefully more details will be released soon if this project comes to light. Especially if it’s planned to shoot not long after The Running Man.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the alleged development of Baby Driver 2 as we have them. If this sequel manages to come together, it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out. Especially if actor Jon Bernthal is set to receive a bigger role this time around.
