Mike Mignola’s Hellboy comic book franchise is once again coming to the big screen. The character was previously adapted by Guillermo del Toro with Ron Perlman in the starring role, and then again for 2019’s reboot from director Neil Marshall with David Harbour as the titular superhero. Now, as you can see in the new trailer below, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is an all-new adaptation from director Brian Taylor with Jack Kesy as Hellboy.
The new film, while also an adaptation of the source material, is definitely set to be a unique twist compared to previous adaptations. As we’ve already known, and the trailer continues to prove, the film will be based on Mike Mignola’s limited series The Crooked Man which takes the storyline to the 1950s rather than the present day.
Jack Kesy’s Hellboy is a rookie for the BPRD, aka Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, and he finds himself on a mission in Appalachia. It’s there that he discovers a small community featuring a group of witches and the titular villain The Crooked Man that he’ll have to face.
Here’s the official trailer for the all-new movie Hellboy: The Crooked Man:
Of course, given the popularity of past adaptations – notably Guillermo del Toro’s two Hellboy movies – this new attempt certainly has its own massive shoes to fill. Hopefully for fans that want to see a different kind of Hellboy on the big screen, however, they’ll find that this film can still deliver.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set to hit theaters later this year. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated Hellboy reboot and comic book adaptation as we have them. For now, it’ll be interesting to see how this film performs with longtime fans, especially being the third iteration of Hellboy on the big screen.
