The addition of Hulu titles on Disney Plus has allowed Disney’s streaming service to offer a much more varied library of content. This includes R-rated titles and those that were previously part of the 20th Century Fox library. Now one such title from that library, a R-rated classic sci-fi movie, is dominating Disney Plus.
As of this writing, the 20th Century Fox production has managed to climb into the streaming service’s Top 10 category. The film is currently holding the tenth place, and while that might not be the top of the list, it’s certainly a great spot when considering how many titles it’s competing against.
In fact, it’s even more admirable because this particular film was first released in 1987. It’s a great example of its ability to still find an audience all these years later. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that it also managed to spawn a rather successful franchise. One that has kept fans engaged and obsessed for decades.
The film, 1987’s Predator, is a true example of blending genres. Though it initially offers an action-packed first act with a nice hint of comedy, it slowly begins to transform itself. The film becomes a slasher movie, with a high-tech alien hunter that uses its wits and technology to kill off a team of commandos led by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Dutch.
As the commandos are killed off one-by-one, it becomes a primal example of survival. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character is stripped down to his bare muscles, using his own wits and strength to survive the alien killer. It’s a premise that has been reused for several sequels, crossovers with the Alien franchise, and various other examples of tie-in media including comics, books, and video games.
Disney Plus subscribers with a Hulu membership can definitely do themselves a favor, then, and check out this R-rated classic on Disney Plus. Especially since we know there are other Predator related projects currently in the works.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Predator franchise as we have them. For now, fans can check out the franchise on Disney Plus, including the 1987 original that’s dominating the app.
