The Boys remains one of Amazon Prime’s most popular and successful television shows. However, that hasn’t stopped toxic trolls from criticizing the series or its cast. In fact, Erin Moriarty has been the target of various online verbal attacks, and now showrunner Eric Kripke is continuing to defend the star from The Boys.
Erin Moriarty has faced backlash from certain viewers from years. Many of these viewers, for example, have targeted Moriarty’s facial features to say that she looks too different from when the series started. Eric Kripke defended her on social media soon after these attacks began, though he’s now going a step further to defend Erin Moriarty in an interview with Variety.
As shared below, Kripke explains that his feelings haven’t changed, and he explains why he took the steps to defend her on social media. He offered plenty of good reasons:
“First question, why I did it, is I’m really protective of my actors. They’re all really good people, and you start to feel like their dad in a way. And she was genuinely hurt, and really upset. I just felt like, ‘F—k them!’ I was genuinely angry,” he began. Though Kripke admits that there wasn’t “a lot of careful thought” included when he first wrote the message.
Additionally, Kripke adds that he was merely “pissed that they were coming after one of my actors,” and was surprised when his tweet received a “strangely positive” response from fans. And while he acknowledges critics can absolutely dislike a “performance” or “show,” he believes even fans felt the attacks against Moriarty were far too personal:
“I think there was just a lot of people that watched that stuff from afar and is just, like, ‘That’s bullshit,’” he added.
“When it starts to become these personal attacks on who they are, and when f**king Megyn Kelly wants to talk about it, it’s really not fair because they’re not in a position that they can fight back,” he said. “So yeah, all the trolls really can eat a bag of dicks and f—k off to the sun. I reiterate that comment.”
Of course, Moriarty herself responded to the trolls in the past. But it’s certainly another level to have the show’s showrunner on your side as well. Fortunately, his comments also brought out the support of fans as well that also quickly defended Moriarty.
