The Avengers film franchise will soon be returning for its fifth installment. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are naturally curious about the film, which has yet to receive an official title after being changed from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Fortunately, fans have received one positive development, as a major MCU actor has just confirmed their return in Avengers 5.
Obviously plenty of fan-favorite characters are expected to return in the sequel. After all, that’s the appeal of these massive crossover events. With so many new roles having been introduced in recent years, however, it’s still unknown just which characters could be featured. Especially when Marvel Studios still has Avengers: Secret Wars under their sleeve which will no doubt include even more characters.
This actor shared their involvement in the project while speaking with Netflix. As shared in a new interview, here’s what the actor had to say about the highly-anticipated project:
“It’s been a very lovely relationship with that company,” Marvel actor Benedict Cumberbatch tells ComicBook. He has played Doctor Strange in a number of different MCU projects. “I’m very much looking forward to Avengers [5] next year.”
Other details for the title have yet to be revealed. Hopefully we’ll have more information in the near future, however, especially since production is set to begin sooner rather than later. Now that we know Benedict Cumberbatch will return for his role as Doctor Strange for Avengers 5, however, it gives fans yet another reason to get excited for this new installment.
Avengers 5 is currently being written by Michael Waldron, following a draft of the screenplay previously penned by Jeff Loveness. The film is currently scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026.
