Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox has allowed the studio to revive a number of properties under their new 20th Century Studios banner. Now, as a result, a cult classic 80s sci-fi movie is set to receive a remake from the studio.
As shared in a new report, Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas has been tapped to write this particular remake. Matalas was the sole showrunner of Picard Season 3, having been a co-showrunner for its second season. And, based on these accolades, he’s certainly an exciting choice for the studio to handle this revamped version of a classic sci-fi tale.
This particular tale was released as a sci-fi epic in 1985. It was originally a box office flop during its initial release, but in the years since, it has received a strong following. The work of director Wolfgang Petersen and cast members Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. have certainly contributed to that long-term success.
Now, years later, we’ll be receiving a remake of the film which is none other than Enemy Mine. A report from THR notes that no producer or director have currently come onboard the project, but it’s likely that we’ll have more details soon. Especially while Matalas works away on the film’s screenplay.
The original Enemy Mine movie was actually an adaptation of the 1979 novella of the same name by author Barry B. Longyear. He followed the story up with an additional two sequels, all of which were published together as The Enemy Papers. One can only assume, then, that this new adaptation could lead to an entire trilogy if the project is successful enough.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the remake of the cult classic sci-fi movie Enemy Mine as we have them. This is certainly an exciting development and we’ll have to see what 20th Century Studios and writer Terry Matalas will have to offer the project.
