Subscribers have eagerly waited for updates regarding a wide number of previously-announced projects coming to streaming services like Netflix. Some of these titles have received optimistic updates, while others have been dire. Then, of course, there are those projects that haven’t had any kind of news at all. Sadly, after two years, it’s being reported that Netflix has officially canceled one such highly-anticipated series.
The show has been in development for more than two years. As shared in a new report, however, it looks like the owner of the property the show is based on no longer wants to work with Netflix.
As of this writing, Netflix has yet to comment, but it looks like their version of the series is dead.
Here’s what TVLine was able to share regarding the news and how there might still be new life in the project outside of Netflix:
“Power Rangers owner Hasbro Entertainment in turn is exploring a new creative direction for the series,” the outlet claims to have heard from their sources, referring to a Netflix series based on Power Rangers that was announced in 2022. The outlet adds that, in addition to this new creative direction, they plan to develop the series “with a new partner.”
The project would have featured Jenny Klein as the showrunner working alongside Jonathan Entwistle. For those unaware, Entwistle was tapped to oversee an entire Power Rangers film and television universe for the platform. Apparently, however, it looks like those plans did not come to fruition.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Power Rangers franchise as we have them. While the Netflix series project doesn’t seem to have worked out, Hasbro is reported to be hard at work with their new partner to devise the brand’s future. Hopefully that means we’ll have more details soon and a clearer idea for what to expect.
