The X-Men franchise is slowly being reintroduced as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or, rather, Multiverse). Deadpool & Wolverine is the first full-length film as part of this operation, and speculation for the movie has been sky-high. Many fans have started to speculate that Taylor Swift would appear in Deadpool & Wolverine as X-Men character Dazzler, though those rumors have now been debunked according to a new report.
One reason the rumors had become so prolific, in addition to Swift’s own growing popularity, is that she really does seem like a perfect fit for Dazzler. The X-Men comic book character has yet to make the jump to the big screen. However, her comic book counterpart is quite similar to Swift, both physically and in that they’re each mega-popular pop stars.
According to EW, however, the rumors were simply too good to be true. The outlet claims that Swift is not in the film, even with the new IMAX poster for the film that features Deadpool and Wolverine each “wearing friendship bracelets like the ones that have become synonymous with Swift’s massive worldwide Eras Tour.”
An additional reason the rumors became so rampant is that stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, along with director Shawn Levy, were all spotted at a Kanas City Chief’s NFL game. Taylor Swift was also at the event, sharing support for her boyfriend Travis Kelce. Of course, Reynolds and Swift have been friends for years, so it wasn’t much of a stretch that it had nothing to do with Deadpool & Wolverine after all.
Both Reynolds and Levy had fun with the rumors that surfaced after being spotted at the game, and fans immediately believed they didn’t want to reveal Swift’s appearance in the film. As shared by EW, however, it seems as though they were merely playing with the audience.
In any case, there are still plenty of other characters that will surprise fans when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters, so it’s not like the film won’t still be a massive crossover event. And fans won’t have long to wait to see how the film turns out, as Deadpool & Wolverine will be hitting theaters – without Taylor Swift – on July 26, 2024.
