The 2013 horror movie The Conjuring has been a monumental success for years now. In addition to its own popularity, more than a decade later, it’s managed to spawn an entire cinematic universe. The franchise now consists of a total of eight movies – and it’s been revealed that a Conjuring TV series is still in the works for Max.
The development of a Max series based on The Conjuring has been something first mentioned about a year ago. Of course, things have been silent since then, but now an update has been shared by HBO and Max Content CEO Casey Bloys.
As shared with Variety, he added the following regarding the progress made on the series:
“There are other properties [in development] like The Conjuring, which is a big movie franchise that we’re developing into a series.”
Obviously this isn’t a very detailed update, but it’s certainly reassuring for fans that felt like the TV series wasn’t happening. After all, the streaming landscape has become rather unpredictable as of late. Fortunately, it looks like the series based on The Conjuring is absolutely still on the table.
The project is being developed by Peter Safran with Warner Bros. Television, and it will “continue the story established in the feature films.” The franchise certainly has plenty of potential in being expanded further, especially with so many characters and time periods now part of the story.
For now, however, we’ll have to see how development on this series turns out. It will be produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions and Peter Safran’s The Safran Company in association with WBTV. It’s currently unknown if Patrick Wilson or Vera Farmiga will reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren, respectively.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the Conjuring TV series being developed for Max as we have them. In the meantime, fans can still enjoy the eight movies that we’ve so far received.
