The Spider-Man franchise is set to go beyond the MCU trilogy that concluded with Spider-Man: No Way Home. A fourth Spider-Man film has been in the works for quite some time following the release of No Way Home. As such, fans are eager to know what they can expect. Now a new Spider-Man 4 rumor teases some potential returns in a completely unexpected way.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has already faced a number of villains both old and new. In fact, No Way Home brought over several villains from different continuities including Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy and the Amazing Spider-Man duology. It’s left fans speculating whether or not these villains could return or if Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will have even bigger fish to fry.
Now, as shared by insider Alex Perez via Cosmic Circus, it looks like we could see a combination of both options. Perez suggests that Spider-Man 4 could include some very surprising twists to bring back classic villains without taking the same path as No Way Home to do so.
Perez was asked about a tweet he made previously, suggesting that Green Goblin and Doc Ock “will be, if not, the final villains Holland’s Spider-Man faces when his time as Spider-Man comes to an end.” As such, Perez was able to elaborate, and it seems as though we may see some kind of variants for these characters rather than the versions played by Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina:
“I know many people are curious as to how exactly they will do Doc Ock and Green Goblin again when the time comes. I’d just like to let everyone know, the whole world was watching the final fight during No Way Home. And it may or may not have inspired a couple of people in the MCU.”
Obviously this Spider-Man 4 rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. However, it would make sense to see the MCU’s versions of these characters now that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker knows of their existence. Ultimately, we’ll just have to see what happens.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Spider-Man 4 as we have them. It’s currently unknown how the rumor will pan out, and fans may have to wait quite some time to see if it’s accurate or not. In the meantime, we do know Marvel Studios and Sony are hard at work on the project, so hopefully more details will come to light in the near future.
