The hit Amazon Prime series The Boys is about to return for its fourth season. Now, ahead of this exciting premiere, showrunner Eric Kripke has made a surprising announcement for fans of The Boys. As it turns out, The Boys Season 5 is being planned as the end of the beloved superhero satire.
As shared on X, Kripke decided to make the announcement for the week of the show’s fourth season premiere. Obviously fans are going to have mixed feelings, but this isn’t a premature end to the story. Instead, this was always Kripke’s plan, and it certainly isn’t the end to the overall franchise.
Here’s what Kripke shared regarding the news that Season 5 will be the final season for the hit series:
“#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

The popular Amazon Prime Video series first premiered on the streaming platform in 2019. As such, it makes sense that the story is finally being wrapped up with the fourth and fifth seasons beginning in 2024. While fans are no doubt going to miss the flagship series, there is still the animated spin-off The Boys Presents: Diabolical and the live-action spin-off Gen V. With other such shows in the works, there will still be plenty of other stories to look forward to.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on The Boys and its spin-off projects as we have them. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the premiere of The Boys Season 4, and keep in mind that the fifth season will be its end.
