The arrival of the first full theatrical remake of The Crow is upon us. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in just a few months. Ahead of that release, however, screenwriter Cliff Dorfman had a rather strong reaction to The Crow.
His reaction marks the first response to the project, in which he describes it as both “horrible” and “unwatchable.” This reaction to The Crow was shared on X, before Dorfman ultimately deleted the post.
The full reaction to the film as follows:
“If hypothetically, one happened to see a screening of @TheCrow_Movie #thecrow which @Lionsgate is releasing in August, one might say, it’s horrible, it’s unwatchable, don’t waste your money, or can’t believe it’s so much worse than the original. It is. And don’t.”
It’s worth noting that Dorfman is a screenwriter and he previously was attached to an adaptation of The Crow that didn’t get made. That particular iteration would have been directed by F. Javier Gutierrez.
Of course, this response might not be a surprise to some fans. After all, the trailer seemed to widely receive negative reactions when it was released online. Though the film could perform much differently when moviegoers see the full picture.
Rupert Sanders directed The Crow which was written by Zach Baylin and William Schneider. The film stars Bill Skarsgård, FKA Twigs, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger. The original comic book series was created by James O’Barr.
Fans will be able to see The Crow in theaters on August 23, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on The Crow. It’ll be interesting to see if general audiences enjoy the film, suggesting that Dorfman was simply biased due to his connections with the brand, or if they will share his disappointment with the final product.
