The hit 1998 movie Practical Magic is officially receiving a direct sequel with Practical Magic 2. The announcement was surprisingly made by Warner Bros. on social media, exciting fans of the film which starred Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.
Furthermore, as shared by Variety, both Bullock and Kidman are reportedly having talks to return to the film as their characters – a pair of sisters that dabble in witchcraft. The original film was based on the 1995 novel by Alice Hoffman, and with several other books following that story, there’s certainly plenty of material to draw from in order to create a new movie.
Interestingly, the reason a new film no doubt took so long to happen is that Practical Magic originally bombed at the box office. It only made $68.3 million with a reported budget of $75 million. Nevertheless, it has become a cult classic over the years. As such, we’ll have to see how Warner Bros. decides to treat the property with this sequel.
Otherwise, there haven’t been any other official details released, so fans will have to wait to see what the plot of the film will be. And without any confirmation regarding the film’s cast, writer, or director – that remains to be seen as well. Fans of the original film know very well that Griffin Dunne directed the 1998 movie, with Dunne having previously starred in the hit horror movie An American Werewolf in London.
It’s all a very interesting project for the studio, especially with the way they’ve been marketing the announcement. This is especially evident with the following TikTok video shared by the official Warner Bros. TikTok account:

Hopefully more details will be released soon. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Practical Magic 2 as we have them. It’s definitely an exciting announcement for fans that didn’t think a sequel to the 1998 film would get off the ground. And, if Bullock and Kidman do return, all the more exciting to have the original cast back.
