The MonsterVerse is moving forward following the success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. In addition to the next season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and other such spin-off projects, a new MonsterVerse movie is in the works – and the director has been announced.
Surprisingly enough, Adam Wingard is not returning to direct the new film. Out of all of the different MonsterVerse films, Wingard has been the only director to helm two movies. He directed both Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. However, it looks like he’s now moving onto other things.
As for the next MonsterVerse movie, it’s currently unknown what the film will be. According to THR, all we know is that the film “is described as a continuation of the franchise centering Godzilla, Kong and an assortment of other Titans.” Though they were able to reveal the film’s new director.
The outlet reveals that none other than Grant Sputore will be directing the new film. This was further confirmed by Sputore in an Instagram post. Here’s what he had to share about taking on the new sequel:
“Well this is (literal) HUGE news. It’s also a huge honour. I’ve been a giant monster fan for as long as I’ve been a fan of anything – and to follow in the footsteps of the other incredible directors who’ve had their turn in the MonsterVerse is a dream come true. Can’t thank Legendary enough for this Titan sized opportunity.”

In addition to Sputore helming the film as director, the screenplay is currently being written by Dave Callaham. We’ll have to wait for more details in the near future. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional news regarding this highly-anticipated sequel as we have them. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire certainly proved there’s still an audience and plenty of different Titan-related stories to tell.
