Fans of the Hostel franchise will be excited to know that the Lionsgate brand is now headed to television. A Hostel TV series is officially in the works. And, while not many details were revealed beyond that, it was shared that none other than Paul Giamatti is attached.

The fan-favorite actor recently earned a Golden Globe for his performance in The Holdovers, so seeing Giamatti land a role in a Hostel TV series is certainly exciting. It’s unknown what character he could be playing in the show, but his range is perfect for the murderous and rich antagonists associated with the franchise.

As also shared by THR, “Eli Roth, Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss” are “all returning for the project from Fifth Season.” The outlet also notes that the series “does not yet have a platform attached,” though it’s been called a “modern adaptation” as well as an “elevated thriller.” Furthermore, it’s being considered a “reinvention” of the previous three films.

“Roth and Briggs will pen the script,” THR adds, “with the former set to direct. Roth, Briggs and Fleiss will all executive produce the series.”

The Hostel film franchise began with 2006’s eponymous film directed by Eli Roth. He returned to direct a sequel, Hostel: Part II, in 2007. They were reach followed by Hostel: Part III, a direct-to-video entry directed by Scott Spiegel, which concluded the franchise until now. Obviously it’s been quite some time since a new project in the Hostel project has gone into development, so fans have a lot to look forward to with a televison series.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Hostel TV series and the involvement of Paul Giamatti as we have them. For now, this certainly looks like a great way to revive the Hostel horror movie brand – especially with someone like Giamatti involved.
