The upcoming horror film Alien: Romulus looks like a fitting return to the early years of the Alien film series. In fact, as shown in the newly-released trailer, Alien: Romulus looks like an excellent blend of both Alien and Aliens that’s sure to get fans excited.
Interestingly, Romulus actually takes place in between the events of Alien and Aliens. Though Aliens is a direct sequel to Alien, there is a gap of 57 years between the two movies. This is certainly more than enough time to explore with new movies and stories, and Alien: Romulus looks like it will be doing just that.
The film will be focusing on a new cast featuring Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. Fede Alvarez, known for 2013’s Evil Dead and his own original hit Don’t Breathe, directed the film. He also co-wrote the screenplay with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues while Ridley Scott is attached as a producer.
Here’s the official trailer for Alien: Romulus:
This is definitely an enlightening look at the film. And fans are no doubt pleased to have it, given that they’re curious for a number of reasons. After all, we’ve spent quite some time away from traditional Alien stories between the two Alien vs. Predator movies and the two adjacent prequels helmed by Ridley Scott over the last two decades. Additionally, this will be the first Alien film to be released by Disney following their acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Thus it’s nice to see a potential return to form with Alien: Romulus.
The new film is set to hit theaters on August 16, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Alien: Romulus and any other upcoming projects set in the Alien universe as we have them. In addition to this highly-anticipated film, fans can also expect a new live-action television series, so there is certainly plenty to look forward to.
