The Predator film franchise was just one of many different properties acquired by Disney with their ownership of 20th Century Fox. As such, fans were recently treated to a surprisingly well-received spin-off with Prey, and it didn’t take long for another Predator entry to be announced. Now fans can look forward to another Predator movie from Prey director Dan Trachtenberg titled Badlands – and Elle Fanning is set to star.
The film will be a new stand-alone title set in the Predator universe. As further noted by Deadline, however, “a Prey 2 is still in the works” albeit in early development. This Prey sequel “would return to the film’s original setting and with Prey star, Amber Midthunder, potentially returning.” In the case of the separate film Badlands, now starring Elle Fanning, details are being kept under wraps. Though the outlet did note that “it will feature everyone’s favorite extraterrestrial big game hunter.”
Furthermore, for those fans hoping that the film could mark the franchise’s return to theaters as opposed to streaming, that very well could be the case. It isn’t confirmed one way or the other at this time, but since Disney was eager to give Alien: Romulus a theatrical release, they could begin to do the same for the Predator franchise. Especially given the success of Prey.
Hopefully more details regarding Badlands and the role played by Elle Fanning will be released soon. Prey absolutely opened up some interesting possibilities for the Predator franchise, fully embracing the anthology potential of placing the titular aliens in different time periods against iconic warriors. It seems as though Badlands will continue this tradition.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Predator film franchise and the production of Badlands as we have them. For now, it’ll certainly be exciting to know Elle Fanning will have the opportunity to star in the Predator film series.
