Anya Taylor-Joy has been making headlines due to her involvement in the newly-released film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. She plays the titular character Furiosa in the Mad Max spin-off, and while plenty of fans are discussing her performance in the movie, a previous interview with Taylor-Joy resurfaced. As part of a rather heartbreaking revelation, Anya Taylor-Joy previously revealed how she was bullied over her eyes.
Taylor-Joy discussed this when an interviewer asked about her eyes which are “so far apart.” Her response was rather devastating, however, as Taylor-Joy explained she didn’t even realize her eyes looked that way until she was bullied online over them. It seemed to have had a rather negative impact on the way she views herself.
She explained all of this while previously speaking with W Magazine in 2016, where the interviewer mentioned her “beautiful eyes” and how “they’re so far apart.” The interviewer continues to ask if when she “were a kid, did they make you self conscious?” According to Anya Taylor-Joy, she didn’t notice until she was bullied on social media platforms beginning with Facebook.
Here’s what she shared:
“I can definitely remember when Facebook was a thing and I was never aware that my eyes were far apart and then someone tagged me in a picture with a fish and they were like, ‘This is you ’cause your eyes are like here.'”
She continued to explain how the experience impacted her ability to look at herself in the mirror:
“And I was really upset about it and I didn’t enjoy it and I kind of stopped looking in mirrors for a very long time. I still don’t really spend a lot of time in front of mirrors because I don’t really have to deal with my face. Unfortunately, y’all do.”
Fortunately, as she admits in the same interview that she’s “grown into” herself and become “a bit less awkward,” many fans have taken to social media over the years to defend Taylor-Joy. As you can see below:

Not only does she deserve the words of positivity, but it’s certainly great to see that she’s continuing to move forward in life and in her career, especially winning over major parts like playing Furiosa in the new Mad Max: Fury Road prequel.
