It’s a tough market for television shows in the streaming era. As such, it’s just been announced that a fan-favorite series on Max has been cancelled by the streamer after just one season. It’s no doubt disappointing for fans of the series, but Max released in a statement how grateful they are to have been involved with the show.
As you can read below, a statement was released by Max regarding the end of the show. It’s quite astonishing just how far it had come with just one season, though, because it’s actually had several homes over the years.
It was actually first step up at Netflix in 2019, as noted by the outlet, before being moved to The CW and eventually Max where it received a series order in 2022.
Here’s what they shared regarding the show (via Variety) and how it will not be receiving a second season to continue its story:
“While Max will not be moving forward with a second season of ‘The Girls on the Bus,’ we are grateful to have partnered with immensely talented Amy Chozick, Julie Plec, Rina Mimoun, as well as the teams at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television,” Max said in their statement. “We are so proud of this powerful story of found family and the celebration of journalism, in all its forms. We thank them and our unrivaled cast for all their incredible work and collaboration.”
The cancelled Max series The Girls on the Bus is said to be inspired by co-creator Amy Chozick’s own experiences as a political reporter on the campaign bus with a number of presidential candidates. For this particular series, it followed a total of four reporters played by Melissa Benoist, Carla Gugino, Natasha Behnam, and Christina Elmore, respectively.
