Disney has an enormous library of iconic films and television shows at their disposal. With additional methods of distribution that include streaming services like Disney Plus or the traditional theatrical circuit, it’s no surprise that they’re rebooting quite a few of these properties. In fact, a new rumor suggests that Disney has two other properties in mind that they could be rebooting in the near future.
As shared by a new report, it’s something that Disney has been trying to navigate carefully. Pixar President Jim Morris even discussed their upcoming title Inside Out 2 and how its success (or lack thereof) will determine the likelihood that Disney and Pixar will continue producing sequels.
Per Bloomberg:
“With a sequel, if you put something out there that doesn’t have the goods, then you will be punished for it,” Morris explained. “Having had the doldrums we did, it will certainly be a good test with Inside Out 2 for us to see: Does this stuff still work, or does it not?”
Naturally, if Disney does focus more on producing sequels and reboots, they reportedly already have some in mind. According to this particular publication, the titles that Disney could be rebooting in the near future include The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.
The two films have been some of Pixar’s biggest titles since they were released in 2004 and 2003, respectively. They each received a single sequel as well, with The Incredibles 2 in 2018 and Finding Dory in 2016. Now that Disney and Pixar hope to follow the likely success of Inside Out 2, it looks like other projects could soon be in development.
Obviously it depends on the state of the industry and how Inside Out 2 performs. For the time being, however, it looks like Pixar is rather open to revisiting these titles and keeping their recognizable brands alive. Especially with other sequels like Toy Story 5 already in the works.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Disney updates as we have them and any other news regarding potential reboots of Pixar titles like The Incredibles and Finding Nemo. It’d certainly be interesting to see how Disney could approach such projects in the future, especially given how much these particular films mean to fans.
