The Masters of the Universe franchise is set to receive an all-new film adaptation from Amazon MGM Studios. The project has been in varying stages over the years, located at different companies, but Amazon MGM Studios is eager to get the ball rolling. Now it’s been announced that Nicholas Galitzine will play He-Man in the new Masters of the Universe film.
As shared by Variety, Nicholas Galitzine, who fans may recognize from Idea of You, “has been cast as He-Man, the blond barbarian who inspired the popular Mattel toy, in the upcoming film adaptation ‘Masters of the Universe.'”
The film really has been in the works for nearly two decades now. Hopefully, then, this is the iteration that finally makes it to the screen. Regarding the other talent attached to the project, Bumblebee director Travis Knight will direct Masters of the Universe for Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel. Chris Butler is writing the film’s script.
Masters of the Universe is scheduled to be released on June 5, 2026. Hopefully we’ll have more details released soon as we approach that release date. In the meantime, it might be a long two years, but it’s possible that more casting news will follow in the near future.
The outlet did share an earlier synopsis for the film which could reveal what to expect with this new take:
“‘Masters of the Universe‘ follows Prince Adam a.k.a. He-Man, who crashes to Earth in a spaceship as a child and, decades later, returns to his home planet to defend it from the evil forces of the baddie known as Skeletor. But in order to defeat the powerful villain, he needs to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man, referred to in this world as ‘the most powerful man in the universe.'”
It’ll definitely be interesting to see what happens with the long-awaited project moving forward. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Masters of the Universe updates as we have them. In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see how this project turns out with Nicholas Galitzine attached to star.
