The 1981 horror film My Bloody Valentine and its 2009 remake, My Bloody Valentine 3D, have been two iconic pieces of the slasher genre for decades. Now it looks like a new film based on My Bloody Valentine is currently in development.
This is certainly an exciting announcement for fans of the two films. After all, in addition to the two films, recent years have seen the release of novels and comics that encapsulate everything that fans love about the iconic slasher brand.
Now, according to Bloody-Disgusting, “Blumhouse is developing a brand new My Bloody Valentine movie.” Genre fans are no doubt familiar with Blumhouse, as the company has been involved with some popular films and franchises as The Purge, the most recent Halloween trilogy, and Insidious.
As such, it’ll be interesting to see what they do upon tackling a property like My Bloody Valentine. Unfortunately, there aren’t any details beyond this surprising revelation. It’s unclear, then, if this new film could be a sequel to the original, the 2009 remake, or a new take on the concept altogether.
Blumhouse has certainly been involved with new remakes, having previously been involved with the second of two Black Christmas remakes. Thus fans can expect just about anything to be possible with Blumhouse becoming involved with this brand.
Each of the current films under the property include cliffhanger endings that could easily be expanding into full-blown sequels and franchises. Of course, it may be a little difficult to follow the ending of the 1981 film so many decades later, but Blumhouse has certainly proved it possible by doing sequels to the original Halloween and The Exorcist.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the new My Bloody Valentine film as we have them. For now, however, it’ll be interesting to see what this announcement means for the franchise going forward and whether or not any of the previous storylines will be picked up for a potential sequel.
