The 2022 horror film M3GAN successfully introduced a modern-day horror icon. And, in that tradition, it was soon announced that a sequel would bring back the titular robotic character. However, Universal just changed the release date for M3GAN 2.0, which will now be arriving in theaters a month later than expected.
The film was originally scheduled by Universal to be released on May 16, 2025. Now, as shared by Variety, Blumhouse has decided to shift the date while planning their calendar for next year. It may be disappointing for fans that want more Megan sooner rather than later, but at least it’s not much of a delay.
Instead of May, fans will be able to see M3GAN 2.0 on June 27, 2025. This means the film will still have a Summer 2025 release date and suggests that Universal is quite confident about the film. After all, the first movie did do surprising numbers at the box office.
With only a $12 million budget, the Blumhouse production managed to earn as much as $181 million worldwide. It became such a success that there’s already merchandise, including an upcoming life-size doll of the titular character, and even references to the film in the latest season of Chucky.
Gerard Johnstone directed the original film which was written by Akela Cooper and based on a story by Cooper and James Wan. As of this writing, Johnstone is in talks to once again direct, while Cooper returned to write the screenplay. Given the ending of M3GAN, however, it’s clear that they had a plan in place for where the sequel could go. Now we’ll be getting to see the story continue next year.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding M3GAN 2.0 as we have them. For now, it looks like fans can expect the film to hit theaters on June 27, 2025. Hopefully more details will come our way soon regarding the picture.
