The hit television series Dexter aired from 2006 to 2013 with Michael C. Hall as the titular character. A follow-up series titled Dexter: New Blood saw the return of Hall in 2021. Now a new actor is set to lead the cast of a prequel series titled Dexter: Original Sin.
The prequel series was announced in January 2023. Now, more than a year later, the three leads of Dexter: Original Sin have been officially announced. Interestingly, they’ll all be playing roles from the original series that were once played by Michael C. Hall, James Remar, and Jennifer Carpenter.
Of course, the series will be set more than a decade before the events of the original series. As such, new cast members are to be expected so many years later. The setting takes place in 1991, and as shared by Variety, the series revolves around Dexter as a student that finally becomes the serial killer we know him as in the original show.
The new cast members for this Dexter prequel replacing Hall, Remar, and Carpenter are Patrick Gibson, Christian Slater, and Molly Brown, respectively. Their story for the first season will be told in a total of ten episodes on Paramount Plus.

A logline for the series was shared stating that the show “follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements’ radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”
It certainly looks like it will be an exciting take on the story that fans have become so familiar with over the decades. Of course, being a prequel, there are sure to be plenty of surprises and unexpected nods for fans to enjoy.
