Cate Blanchett has led an incredible career in the film industry. She has numerous awards with appearances in films that include Elizabeth, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Thor: Ragnarok. Nevertheless, many social media users are slamming Cate Blanchett online for comments where she referred to herself as “middle class.”
Obviously, with films like those mentioned above under her belt, Blanchett is not at all what most people would consider middle class. In fact, Blanchett has a net worth estimated around $95 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.
The comments that Blanchett made regarding herself as “middle class” were made during a press conference at Cannes. The festival held the premiere of her new film “Rumours.” During the conference, she spoke about herself and her experience with refugee filmmakers.
Here’s what she stated:
“I’m white, I’m privileged, I’m middle class and I think one can be accused of having a bit of a white savior complex,” Blanchett began. “But to be perfectly honest, my interaction with refugees in the field and also in resettled environments has totally changed my perspective on the world, and I’m utterly grateful for that.”
I beg your pardon.

Other users, however, tried to defend Blanchett. They explained that the phrase “middle class” has a different meaning for the British, in which they divide classes by poor, middle class, and then royalty. This would certainly be accurate then for Blanchett to be in middle class.
She is speaking of her class not her bank balance. She isn’t upper class, even if she is makes billions

Class and money are different. She might consider herself middle class because she isn’t royalty.
