The Bluey animated series has been an incredible success over the years. As such, it might not come as a surprise to see that a Bluey meet-and-greet was created for children and parents. However, it turns out that the unofficial event went horribly wrong – with many upset as a result.
As noted by FOX5, the event held by a restaurant named “Dirt Dog” in the area was advertised on Facebook. With a response of 3,000 people, it promised “an event with Bluey and other characters from the popular show, and free offerings like face painting and desserts,” as shared by the outlet.
In addition to being an upsetting event for children, however, it was also extremely crowded. A number of social media posts revealed long lines and a lack of space, that when inside the restaurant, allowed visitors access to “amateur costumes, homemade treats and face painting from a restaurant staff member.”
One child attendee, named Sophie, shared the following statement about the impersonator who dressed up as the popular character Bluey for the meet-and-greet event:
“I was mad. He looked unexpected,” she began. “We could see his beard.”
Mother Stephanie Hernandez shared her own disappointment in a statement:
“The kids were distraught. Some kids were crying. Some kids were upset, crying in their parents’ shoulders,” Hernandez said. “How could you do that to little kids: advertise something so fun and eventful for kids ranging from toddlers to six, seven years old, and not actually follow through with it? It was a very upsetting moment to see so many kids, especially my daughter, just really upset,” she explained.
Taj Wilder, a spokesperson for marketing pertaining to Dirty Dog, explained that they didn’t expect such a large amount of people at the event. Here’s what she said:
“We expected like maybe 50 to 60 people–not in the sense of like the whole city coming out. Just now knowing who Bluey is, we would have planned ahead and would have had security,” Wilder stated. It seems that while the Facebook post received responses from 3,000 people, they didn’t expect anywhere near that number to actually show up.
“We’re very much family. We love on each other, we support each other. We’re going to continue to make events, create events, especially free ones, for families to come out and have a good time with us,” she said.
Here are some of the additional responses shared by those that attended Dirty Dog’s Bluey meet-and-greet:

I’m laughing and I can see it from both sides but it’s clear the place didn’t intend to lie to anyone.
Hopefully their next event is a success!

If they do intend on providing more events for children and families, then hopefully they’ll be better planned than this particular outing. Especially when dealing with characters as massive and important to children as Bluey.
