One of the most exciting aspects about Disney’s acquisition of Fox is that it granted Marvel Studios access to properties including X-Men. Now, several years after the fact, it’s been confirmed that a new X-Men movie is officially moving forward at Marvel Studios.
This exciting detail, as shared via Deadline, means that “Marvel Studios is now ramping things up on its live-action X-Men movie with Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes scribe Michael Lesslie in negotiations to pen the movie.” Additionally, the outlet notes that it’s “still in early development with no talent or director attached and no release date set.”
On that note, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is attached to produce the film. The project’s early history goes back to just after the SAG-AFTRA strike, in which Feige and his team began meeting with writers to tackle the story for the new X-Men movie. The aforementioned Michael Lesslie is the writer that interested them the most, with the decision to hire him having been made last week.
As such, fans will likely have some time to wait before the X-Men movie finally hits movie screens. However, this is an exciting development because it means the project is officially moving ahead. A plan is being made and a script is being written – so we should have more details regarding the X-Men reboot from Marvel Studios in the near future.
In the meantime, it’s not like the project is the only X-Men title around. Fans can look forward to seeing Deadpool & Wolverine this year, with X-Men ’97 having already been a smash on Disney Plus. Indeed, Marvel Studios seems to already have the right idea when it comes to their newly-acquired X-Men properties, so hopefully this new film will follow suit.
