The last main game in the Grand Theft Auto franchise was released more than a decade ago in 2013. The game, Grand Theft Auto V, was a massive success and one that’s been ported to each generation of gaming devices since. Now, however, Grand Theft Auto VI has officially received a release date.
Grand Theft Auto VI has been heavily-anticipated by long-time fans and newcomers to the franchise for years. Clips and photos from its development were occasionally leaked, and an official trailer hyped up the audience for the title even more. Now we know when to expect the game to be released.
This is especially reassuring when considering that Take-Two Interactive, the parent company for Rockstar Games, reported a $2.9 billion loss for the January 1 to March 31 period of this year. This had many believe the game could have been in trouble. As shared by Variety, however, it’s still on track for its release.
The outlet had the following to share regarding the statement from Take-Two Interactive:
“Take-Two is not prepared to get more specific than “fall 2025” for the ‘GTA VI‘ release date, with CEO Strauss Zelnick saying, ‘I think we’re going to leave it there for now,’ in an interview with Variety ahead of the company’s quarterly earnings call at 4:30 p.m. ET Thursday. ‘That [announcement] will come from Rockstar and be consistent with the way they are marketing the title,’ Zelnick said.”
The 2013 title Grand Theft Auto V broke a number of records upon its release, and it continued to earn $800 million during its first day with a total of $1 billion in its first three days. With numbers like those, it’s no surprise that Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games are excited to get Grand Theft Auto VI out next year.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Grand Theft Auto VI as we have them. Hopefully more details will be released in the near future as we approach 2025. In the meantime, it’s certainly nice to know that the game is still headed on the right track.
