The Silent Hill film franchise is getting an all-new sequel with Return to Silent Hill. The highly-anticipated horror film is being directed by Christophe Gans who previously helmed the first Silent Hill live-action movie adaptation. Now, as you can see below, the first look at Return to Silent Hill featuring the iconic Pyramid Head has been revealed.
The first look at the film was shared by Variety. The publication noted that the upcoming sequel “is based on ‘Silent Hill 2,’ the second and most popular game in Konami’s successful video game series, which has been named to top video game lists by Time Magazine, IGN and more.” They add that it’s “widely considered the best game in the series (and introduced the Pyramid Head character.)”
It’s quite appropriate that the first look at the new Silent Hill film features Pyramid Head, then, since he was first introduced in the Silent Hill 2 video game. The image can be viewed below along with the film’s official plot synopsis.
The sequel, which stars Jeremy Irvine as James and Hannah Emily Anderson as Mary, is said to begin “when a mysterious letter from her calls him back to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. While James desperately searches for Mary, he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town. But as he descends deeper into the darkness the secrets he uncovers lead to a horrifying truth, and James finds himself struggling to hold on long enough to save his one true love.”

After Christophe Gans directed the first Silent Hill adaptation in 2006, a sequel was released in 2012 titled Silent Hill: Revelation from director M. J. Bassett. The film wasn’t as well-received as its predecessor, however, which makes Return to Silent Hill all the more exciting.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Return to Silent Hill as we have them. For now, it’s exciting to see that the Silent Hill film franchise is back on the right track after quite the hiatus. Hopefully this new installment brings forth a great, scary new take on the classic games.
