Radio Silence surprised audiences with their take on the vampire genre and classic Universal Monsters with Abigail. The newly-released horror film, which just arrived on digital video platforms, has been a hit with many horror fans. Now star Melissa Barrera has offered some updates on the possibility of Abigail 2.
The 2024 horror film has currently earned $37.5 million on a $28 million budget. As such, it’s unknown how likely a sequel will be. According to ScreenRant, who spoke with Barrera, she discussed her thoughts on a follow-up happening and what she hopes to do with a sequel.
Here’s what she shared by first elaborating how badly she wants to play a vampire:
“No, the idea of a sequel for me was always exciting, because I want to be a vampire. [Laughs] That’s all I want in life, that’s all I want,” Barrera reveals. “So that was, for me, it was the thing, but I don’t know that we need one,” she adds.
Barrera also points out that Alisha Weir, who plays Abigail in the film, might be too old by the time they can make a sequel.
“And it will be actually really hard to do with Alisha, because technically, she can’t get any older, and she’s at that age where she is getting older. Not that you can’t do it with deaging and CGI and all that stuff, but who knows?”
Ultimately, Barrera insists she’d always be eager to work with Radio Silence on any project – and that includes a potential Abigail sequel.
“I’d definitely be open to coming back. I will work with Matt and Tyler whenever, wherever, for whatever project. So, if they were like, ‘Let’s make another,’ I’d be like, ‘Yeah, when? Let’s go back to Ireland.'”
Hopefully we’ll have more updates soon. It’s difficult to determine whether or not an Abigail sequel will become a priority for Universal, especially with the film only making $37.5 million at the box office. However, if the money does well at home and on streaming platforms, then perhaps there will be enough of a profit to justify another film. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the possibility of Abigail 2 as we have them.
