It can often be difficult to keep up with the releases that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has to offer. As a shared universe of different films and television shows, there are several examples of either medium released each year. As fans prepare for the highly-anticipated release of Deadpool & Wolverine, however, they may have forgotten 2024’s first MCU project – a Disney Plus series where a surprising truth was recently revealed.
This particular Disney Plus series was released as early as January of this year. Of course, with the ongoing excitement for the animated series X-Men ’97 as well, it’s no surprise that the series is no longer the topic of conversation. Although the following information may prove otherwise.
The series has a surprising level of popularity on Disney Plus, as revealed by Variety. The outlet recently covered the viewership for Disney Plus and what subscribers chose to watch across the first quarter of 2024. Although Percy Jackson and the Olympians took 23.3% of the platform’s viewership from January to April, an unexpected MCU project took second place.
The surprising truth is that Echo, the Disney Plus series many felt was doomed according to some major rumors circulating prior to its release, managed to become the second most viewed series on the platform for the first quarter of 2024. The series actually managed to hold 11.8% of the platform’s viewership for the quarter.
At third place is another MCU series, X-Men ’97, with 6.8%. Of course, Echo had a few extra months on its side to beat the highly-acclaimed X-Men follow-up, but it goes to show a surprising and unexpected success for a series that few had faith in. Fortunately, the Disney Plus series Echo seems to have earned its place in the MCU franchise, and it’s likely that we’ve yet to see the last of Alaqua Cox as a result.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel Cinematic Universe updates as we have them, including those connected to the Disney Plus series Echo. After all, the titular character has become a fan-favorite for many, and it’ll be exciting to see what her role in the MCU has in store for her next.
