Actor Steve Buscemi was going for a walk in New York City when a random person punched him. It’s an encounter that has fans devastated and worried, not just for Buscemi, but for the safety of those merely walking through the streets.
As shared via NY Post, “Buscemi, 66, was strolling through Kips Bay last week when a brute walked up and struck the ‘Boardwalk Empire‘ star in a broad-daylight attack – one of the latest unprovoked assaults in the five boroughs, law enfourcement sources told The Post.”
The outlet adds that Buscemi “suffered swelling to his face and left eye and was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.” Fortunately he’s going to be okay, but it’s still an unfortunate and scary circumstance. “Meanwhile,” the outlet notes, “his deranged assailant took off and is still on the lam.”
Buscemi’s publicist shared the following statement:
“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” the statement began.
“He is OK and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of New York.”
A witness of the attack, which is said to have happened around 11:48 AM on May 8 in front of 369 Third Avenue, had this to say:
“I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards,” their statement began. “He right away got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn’t see who hit him.
“It worries me for when we close because we close at 11 and it can get scary around that time,” said the woman, who asked to be identified only as Nat.
The attacker was revealed in surveillance photos shared by the NYPD. They reveal that he was a bearded man with a baseball cap, blue shirt, and black sweatpants.
This man allegedly attacked Steve Buscemi on Wednesday in Mid-Town Manhattan.
Thankfully, 66-year-old Buscemi was OK, but his attacker is still at large.
