Actor Dwayne Johnson surprised fans when he finally appeared in the DCEU as Black Adam. However, his role in the superhero franchise seems to have been dropped following the announcement of the DCU. Nevertheless, one rumor suggests Dwayne Johnson could still be involved in the superhero world – albeit this time as a Marvel character in the MCU.
In addition to reporting that Johnson is rumored to be wanted by Marvel Studios, the new rumor shared which role he would be playing. Interestingly, it’s quite different than his previous role for DC.
In fact, this would actually make Dwayne Johnson one of the most iconic villains often featured against one of Marvel’s newly-acquired superhero teams. Though the character was also previously portrayed in live-action, it was under Fox’s X-Men universe. Johnson’s potential portrayal would be a new fresh start for the MCU’s version of the X-Men.

For those unfamiliar, Apocalypse previously appeared in the old X-Men canon’s X-Men: Apocalypse. The 2016 movie saw actor Oscar Isaac bring life to the powerful character. He’s so powerful, in fact, that he’s recognized as the father of the original Horsemen of Apocalypse. This would certainly be interesting to see if Johnson were to receive the part, then, and how exactly it would work within the MCU as opposed to the limited possibilities of just Fox’s X-Men franchise.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional MCU updates as we have them, including whether or not there are any developments on this Dwayne Johnson rumor. Obviously nothing is guaranteed at this time, and the rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. But seeing Johnson’s place in pop culture and his previous endeavors in the world of superheroes, it certainly wouldn’t be a shock to see him involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
