Netflix has become a massive part of the entertainment industry. Though they recently dismantled their DVD rental service, they still hold a large part of streaming with plenty of exclusive films and shows made available on their platform. Additionally, they recently announced a deal to stream WWE’s Raw in 2025. Furthermore, however, it looks like one star was left upset after her own Netflix show had to be cancelled.
As mentioned, the streaming service has become a massive part of the entertainment industry. They’ve been producing a varied library of films, shows, and other such events. Unfortunately for fans of the aforementioned star, however, one particular Netflix show isn’t going the way she had planned now that it’s been cancelled.
The streaming service has been hosting “Netflix Is A Joke” festivals for several years now. These festivals include numerous stand-up acts from a number of beloved comedians. The star that had her show cancelled, however, happens to be one of these comedians.
Interestingly, 2024’s actual Netflix Is A Joke festival is still taking place as planned. Though this star’s appearance in the festival is cancelled. The reason, as shared below, is actually quite amusing. And, hopefully, it’s something that the star will be able to rectify herself in the coming future.
Many of the comedians attending the act include Seth Rogen, Kevin Hart, Sarah Silverman, and Chris Rock among many others. The comedian that had her show cancelled, however, is Katherine Ryan who was initially scheduled to appear at the event.
As shared in one of her Instagram stories, she gave the following explanation for her show’s cancellation:
“People are very nice and I have small children, so I’ve had messages like, ‘Why aren’t you doing LA? Are you okay? What’s wrong?”
Ryan continues:
“Nothing’s wrong. I don’t think they’re actually making a statement because I think… someone’s responsible and I don’t want to throw anybody under the bus. There was a mess up and I don’t have a Visa, we’ll put it at that.”
She then explains that she’s no longer able to get one in time for the festival.
“Now it’s too late to get a Visa. I think a lot of Americans assume that Canadians are Americans and we can just live and work there. But we can’t, not without a Visa. I didn’t want to come over illegally and then never be allowed back in again. So, that sucks.”
The Netflix Is A Joke festival is not the only event that she had to have cancelled either.
“It also happened with my record of Glitter Room which was delayed. I think what I’m learning is I just need an O-1 permanent Visa. It sucks and I just don’t want anyone to be out of pocket. Otherwise, I would be staying quiet about it.”
Ryan then hopes she didn’t cause too much of an inconvenience for her fans:
“We did sell 600 tickets, so thank you for buying them and I really hope you didn’t book travel or hotels that you can’t get out of. I’ll see you next time.”
This year’s Netflix Is A Joke event, being held without the participation of Katherine Ryan, is being hosted from May 1 to May 12. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Netflix news and any other updates regarding Ryan’s career as we have them.
