The Riddick franchise can be traced all the way back to 2000’s Pitch Black. The film starred Vin Diesel as Richard B. Riddick, a role he reprised for 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick and 2013’s Riddick. Now the next film, Riddick: Furya, is finally set to begin production this summer with Vin Diesel.
The exciting announcement was shared by Variety. The publication notes that Diesel “is set to begin production on ‘Riddick: Furya,’ the fourth installment of the ‘Riddick‘ franchise, on Aug. 26.” As such, we should get plenty of exciting details regarding the highly-anticipated sequel in the coming months.
Here’s what the publication was able to share regarding the film’s plot:
“In ‘Riddick: Furya,’ Riddick finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there, he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster — and some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.”
In addition to the return of Vin Diesel as the titular character, the film will once again be written and directed by David Twohy. Diesel will produce the project under Once Race Films with Samantha Vincent. Thorsten Schumacher will produce under Rocket Science and Lars Sylvest for Thank You Studios will also produce with Joe Neurauter.
In addition to the previous three live-action films, the Riddick franchise is comprised of many other examples of merchandising and tie-in materials. The series includes the straight-to-video animated film The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, several video games, and a number of books.
