The Friday the 13th franchise has been struggling to make a resurgence. Fans thought it would finally be happening sooner rather than later with A24’s Crystal Lake series set to premiere on Peacock. Sadly, however, it looks like the series is now being retooled.
It’s not fully clear at this time what exactly retooling Crystal Lake includes. However, a new rumor suggested the show was altogether cancelled. It specifically claimed that A24 “pulled the plug” on the highly-anticipated revamp.
Fans were immediately sent into a frenzy. After all, with so many other axed Friday the 13th projects over the years, it seemed like Jason would never get a break. Now, however, Bloody-Disgusting reports that the series is still happening at this time – albeit there are some major changes going on behind-the-scenes.
Here’s what the outlet shared on that front:
“A24 has NOT killed off ‘Crystal Lake’ at this time. We have confirmed the show is still happening, but there is indeed some retooling of the project happening behind the scenes.”
Hopefully the series will continue to the small screen unscathed, though we’ll have to wait for more information to drop. Crystal Lake was initially announced in 2022, and though story details have similarly been scarce, it’s been described as an “expanded prequel” to the original franchise. One that’s said to have rights to everything including Mrs. Voorhees and her hockey mask-wearing son, Jason.
Adrienne King, who played Alice in Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th Part 2, was the only cast member announced so far. Bryan Fuller was set to serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer for the series with Victor Miller producing alongside Marc Toberoff, Rob Barsamian, and A24. Additionally, Scream creator Kevin Williamson was tapped to write an episode of the series.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Crystal Lake series updates as we have them. Sooner or later, Jason Voorhees is bound to return.
