James Gunn has been hard at work with Superman: Legacy, the first film in the developing DC Universe aka the DCU. The fictional shared universe is set to be the latest take on numerous iconic DC superheroes, including Batman, and one actor has thrown his hat into the ring. According to Black Panther actor Winston Duke, he wants to play Batman.
In fact, a Batman movie titled The Brave and the Bold is already in the works with director Andy Muschietti at the helm. It’s been unconfirmed what actor will be playing the iconic Dark Knight, however, so there certainly is an opening for Duke to take the role.
While speaking with Slash Film about his desire to play Batman, Duke had this to say:
“Listen, man, can you start that [campaign]? [Laughs] I would say I challenge you to get on all these socials and push for me. Get your community. I would love to. I would love to do that as Batman. I’d love any opportunity to explore new characters, to change narratives around some of these entrenched ideas of how these characters are supposed to look, sound, and perform. I’m all for it.”
For those unfamiliar, Winston Duke has already had experience with the Batman character. He voiced a version of Batman in the podcast titled “Batman Unburied.” Of course, taking the leap from voice acting in a podcast to physically portraying the character would certainly be another ballgame.
Otherwise, it’s currently unknown who could acquire the role of Batman in the new film. However, it’s expected to focus on both Batman and Robin this time around. There’s plenty of potential with crafting a narrative around their story together, especially with this Robin being Batman’s own son, Damian Wayne.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on The Brave and the Bold as we have them. Hopefully we’ll have more details following the release of Superman: Legacy and what that means for the DCU going forward.
