The MCU’s most recent Thor movie to star Chris Hemsworth as the titular character was 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Unlike its predecessor Thor: Ragnarok, however, which went on to become one of the most beloved films featuring Hemsworth – it did not receive the same level of praise. In fact, many fans were disappointed by Thor: Love and Thunder, and now Hemsworth has revealed why he can’t forgive himself for the film.
This surprising detail was revealed in a new interview. Many fans have expressed their disappointment that Thor: Love and Thunder is ultimately just too silly. Now Hemsworth blames himself for having gotten carried away with his improvisations during the making of the movie.
Here’s what he shared on that front with Vanity Fair:
“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” he says. “I didn’t stick the landing.”
Furthermore, it seems like Chris Hemsworth has some very strong feelings about how Thor has been treated as a character overall. He believes that Thor feels more like “a security guard,” someone that merely watches out for the other Avengers. As stated below:
“Sometimes I felt like a security guard for the team. I would read everyone else’s lines, and go, Oh, they got way cooler stuff. They’re having more fun. What’s my character doing? It was always about, ‘You’ve got the wig on. You’ve got the muscles. You’ve got the costume. Where’s the lighting?’ Yeah, I’m part of this big thing, but I’m probably pretty replaceable.”
Fortunately, there are reportedly several other upcoming appearances for Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the works. Hopefully these will not only rectify the issues with Thor: Love and Thunder, but further develop Hemsworth’s MCU character in a way that he feels satisfied with.
Especially at a time where it’s very likely that Chris Hemsworth only has a few appearances left as Thor – much in the way that other original Avengers members have moved on from the franchise or been killed off. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
