The Scooby-Doo franchise has expanded into numerous different iterations over the decades. There have been animated shows, films, and other works in a variety of mediums. And while there have been live-action adaptations in the past, it’s just been announced that a live-action Scooby-Doo series is officially headed to Netflix.
The Scooby-Doo brand was first adapted into live-action with the theatrical film Scooby-Doo in 2002. It was followed by a live-action sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, in 2004. With two live-action TV movies and a live-action straight-to-video feature since then, the brand is being reimagined once again for a live-action Netflix series.
As shared by Deadline:
“In a competitive situation with multiple bidders, the streamer has landed Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series, from Greg Berlanti‘s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.”
The publication continues to note that “the drama project garnered interest from top buyers, ending up at Netflix with a premium, script-to-series commitment.” This is certainly an exciting announcement for fans of the Scooby-Doo franchise. Many fans have been eager for a new live-action take on the iconic source material, and with it being a television series, there are plenty of new possibilities to explore.
The show, titled Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series, is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman for Berlanti Productions as well as Josh Appelbaum & Scott Rosenberg alongside André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner under their Midnight Radio banner. Berlanti Productions’ Jonathan Gabay and Midnight Radio’s Adrienne Erickson co-executive produce.
Appelbaum and Rosenberg are both attached as writers on the series, having previously worked as executive producers on the live-action Cowboy Bebop series. Other details are scarce at the moment, but it will most definitely be a project worth following.
