Paramount is developing a number of new horror films following the success of titles such as Smile. Now, one such movie project that fans have been waiting for has finally received an update: Sleepy Hollow. The project was initially announced in 2022, and while fans have been unsure of its status since then, it looks like it’s moving ahead.
As shared via THR, Lindsey Anderson Beer is still attached to direct the new take on the classic Washington Irving story. She was first announced to direct the project in 2022, so it’s nice to know that she’s still attached. Fans may recognize her for Pet Sematary: Bloodlines which she directed and co-wrote with Jeff Buhler.
Here’s what the outlet was able to reveal regarding the upcoming project:
“Additional projects on the development slate include… Sleepy Hollow with Anderson Beer attached to write, direct, and produce alongside Todd Garner of Broken Road.”
The aforementioned slate is part of a first-look deal between Lindsey Anderson Beer and Paramount Pictures. Other projects she has in the works at Paramount include an upcoming supernatural thriller titled Here Comes the Dark.
For those unfamiliar, the original Washington Irving story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, was first published in 1820. It details the story of a character known as the Headless Horseman and schoolmaster Ichabod Crane who comes across the headless specter in the titular town.
The popular story has been adapted a variety of times, both for film and television, and it will be exciting to see another take from Paramount. The studio was previously involved with a 1999 adaptation directed by Tim Burton. It starred Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane with Christopher Walken as the Headless Horseman’s human form and Ray Park portraying the character’s supernatural persona.
