If you’re a fan of horror films, then you’re well aware of the Happy Death Day movies. The Christopher Landon movies are a great addition to the comedy-slasher genre and have built a fanbase over time. Starring Jessica Rothe in a Groundhog Day-like scenario, the franchise holds two films under its belt, and many have been waiting and hoping for a third movie to complete the trilogy. Rothe has not wasted time exploring other options as she co-stars in Mortiz Mohr’s upcoming directorial debut, Boy Kills World, but the thought of another Happy Death Day 3 has not left her mind.
We were able to catch up with Jessica Rothe while she was promoting Boy Kills World at WonderCon. There, she discussed her love for action films and what transpired in bringing her on board the production. The question about another Happy Death Day movie surfaced during our discussion, and Rothe had some news to share.
Here’s what she had to say when asked if there were any updates on a Happy Death Day 3 movie:
“Well, I can say Chris Landon has the whole thing figured out. We just need to wait for Blumhouse and Universal to get their ducks in a row. But my fingers are so crossed. I think Tree [Gelbman] deserves her third and final chapter to bring that incredible character and franchise to a close or a new beginning.”
It looks like Landon and his leading actor are all in for another franchise film and need Blumhouse and Universal to get things in order. Rothe is still holding out on returning to the role that put her on the map, and the fans definitely want it. It’s just the studio’s move now.
For now, fans can see Jessica Rothe in Boy Kills World when it hits theaters everywhere on April 26th.
