Quentin Tarantino has gifted moviegoers with a number of very different, hilarious, and intense movies over the years. However, he’s preparing to stop directing with his tenth film. At one point, it was planned to be The Movie Critic, but it’s now been revealed that Quentin Tarantino has scrapped his plans for the movie.
As shared by THR, he’s now “going back to the drawing board for his 10th and final film.” The movie would have started shooting this year. Though many details were scarce, it seems it could have actually included Brad Pitt as his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood character Cliff Booth.
Here’s what the outlet was about to share regarding the film’s plot:
“Set in 1977 California, it initially drew inspiration from a cynical movie critic that the filmmaker grew up reading. But sources say it morphed along the way into a film that would feature Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth, the stuntman he portrayed in an Oscar-winning performance in Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It is unclear if this film was going to be a prequel or a 1970s-set sequel to Hollywood.”
It’s certainly disappointing to see the film fall by the wayside. After all, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has become one of Tarantino’s most popular works in just a few years. Fans would have no doubt loved seeing Brad Pitt return as Cliff Booth. Additionally, there was plenty of speculation surrounding The Movie Critic, but now speculation will have to move towards whatever next project Quentin Tarantino will have in the works.
The 61-year-old director, whose works also include Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Django Unchained, has maintained that his tenth film would be his last. And, if fans count Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2 as one film, then he has directed nine features to date. While it’s unknown why The Movie Critic didn’t make the cut, it’s possible that Tarantino simply wants to make sure his final film is worth it.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Tarantino’s next project as we have them. Hopefully it will successfully fill the void that the cancellation of The Movie Critic has left so many fans with.
