It’s going to be a disappointing time for fans of one of Netflix‘s biggest shows. Sadly, while the Netflix series has been renewed for a fifth season, it has also been announced that the fifth season will end the series.
It is undoubtedly a disheartening announcement for fans eagerly awaiting the next installment of one of Netflix’s most beloved series. Despite the joyous news of the show’s renewal for a fifth season, the revelation that it will be the conclusion is certainly bittersweet.
While the journey may be coming to an end, the impact of the series will endure, serving as a testament to its lasting influence on popular culture.
This news comes after the main star for the series was replaced by Liam Hemsworth. Despite this, however, it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the conclusion of the series, as the official statement confirms that the last two seasons will be shot back-to-back and “complete the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books.”
The series, which is none other than The Witcher, once starred Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. He was then announced to be replaced by Liam Hemsworth for the fourth and now fifth seasons of the show. Here’s what was shared via Tudum about the Netflix series coming to an end:
“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told Netflix. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
As the next two seasons will cover the three remaining books by Sapkowski, that means they’ll be adapting Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. Though some fans are disappointed that Cavill won’t be returning to the series, it will be interesting to see how Liam Hemsworth handles the role going forward. Especially with his stories being the last for the character and The Witcher.
It’s official, The Witcher season 4 is in production. But that’s not all, we’re already planning season 5, which will be the final season and bring this epic show to a fitting conclusion. See you on The Continent. pic.twitter.com/c0ilUCWYkF
