Stephen King has delivered fans with some of the greatest horror stories ever created. Many artists have continued to build upon his work, with many film and television adaptations having been spawned in the process. Now one such adaptation, a movie streaming on Netflix, has gone viral for its wild ending based on a classic Stephen King novel.
The horror author’s early works included the likes of Carrie, ‘Salem’s Lot, The Shining, and Pet Sematary. Though over the years, he started to craft all-new psychological terrors, with one such movie providing the basis for an adaptation that was previously thought to be impossible to make. However, director Mike Flanagan proved fans wrong, providing audiences with one of the best modern adaptations of Stephen King‘s beloved works.
Now, despite the Netflix film having been released on Netflix nearly a decade ago, it’s already going viral yet again on social media for its surprising ending. It’s one that provides viewers with a villain that’s disturbing for a number of reasons, one of which includes the actor who brought the character to life – Carel Struycken.
Fans might recall Struycken from his performances that include Twin Peaks, The Addams Family, and one of Flanagan’s other Stephen King adaptations – 2019’s Doctor Sleep. This time, however, we’ll be looking at his appearance in 2017’s Gerald’s Game.
Gerald’s Game, which marks Mike Flanagan‘s first time adapting from King’s vast and influential library, follows Carla Gugino’s Jessie after she’s been handcuffed to a bed by her husband played by Bruce Greenwood. The two characters were attempting to spice up their marriage at a remote lake house, though Greenwood’s character unexpectedly dies, which leaves Gugino stuck.
It’s a creepy setup with a creepier villain, the Moonlight Man, portrayed by the aforementioned Struycken. Here’s a clip of him that’s been going viral on TikTok as a result:
